Why do the episodes in Dhadkan Zindagi Kii have a quiz?
The quiz is done to pick a team leader. The quiz has a hospital employee acting as a patient. The consultant doctor gives a question to 2 residents and expects them to answer in only 60 seconds. This does not happen in real life, however, the drama is exciting to watch.
The age of individual cases is provided. Age is important as it provides a clue to the underlying problem.
What is the first case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii Quiz in Episode 22?
The first case is a 56-year-old female who presents with vomiting and pain abdomen.
The resident doctors guess based on this. There are many problems in the abdomen that can cause these symptoms. The prominent ones are:
- Food poisoning
- Bacteria infection
- Viral infection
- Gall bladder problems
- Appendix problems
- Heart attack (yes can happen)
- Intestinal obstruction
The episode goes on to add there are obstructive symptoms and then dehydration. The residents diagnose this as Volvulus.
Volvulus is a condition where the intestines twist upon themselves and cause mechanical obstruction. This causes symptoms like pain, vomiting, dehydration. If not treated immediately, then the intestines can have gangrene. Hence this is a surgical emergency.
What is the second case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii Quiz in Episode 22?
Dhadkan Zindagi Kii quiz second case is a 6-year-old girl who has a fracture of the leg. She presents with a history of multiple fractures. In addition, she has a history of rash or hyperpigmentation. Whenever there is a history of multiple different forms of symptoms it usually points to a syndrome, especially in a child. In addition, there is a history of facial fractures. Furthermore, there is also a history of precocious puberty which is the early onset of puberty. Suddenly the resident doctor makes a diagnosis of Mc Cune Albright Syndrome.
Mc Cune Albright syndrome is a rare syndrome that affects the skin, bones, and hormones. This explains the differing symptoms. To diagnose, based on those symptoms a rare disease is not easy. When doctors encounter a rare disease, they typically go back to books and literature and update their knowledge to ensure the best care is provided to patients.
What is the third case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii Quiz in Episode 22?
The next case is that of a 28-year-old pregnant woman. She presents with fever, chills, tiredness which all point to an infection. One of the resident doctors, suddenly says this is a TORCH infection. TORCH is an infection that is not done as a reflex but done based on medical history and tests. The TORCH infection means:
- (O)ther Agents
- (H)erpes Simplex
The TORCH infection turns out to be negative. Then the patient is asked if she has the habit of drinking raw milk. The patient does have the habit of drinking raw milk. This habit poses a risk of infections like tuberculosis and listeriosis. The listeria test is positive.
Listeriosis is an infection caused by bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes. This happens due to the consumption of raw uncooked unboiled food.
Tuberculosis can be a problem with the consumption of unpasteurized milk. Cows have tuberculosis bacteria and when the milk is consumed unboiled the tuberculosis bacteria can go into the abdomen and can result in tuberculosis infection.
There are many other bacteria that can result in food poisoning due to eating raw uncooked food.
- Escherichia Coli
- Clostridium perfringens
What is the fourth case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii Quiz in Episode 22?
The fourth case is a 23-year-old male with pain on the left side of the abdomen. They discuss the origins of the pain. They get an X-Ray of the abdomen. A comment is made that the X-ray looks worse than a sewer. This does not make sense in the medical sense and is probably used as humor. The diagnosis comes out as Renal vein thrombosis.
Renal vein thrombosis is a clot in the renal vein. There are two kidneys and each kidney has an artery called renal artery and a vein called renal vein. A clot in the renal vein blocks blood flow out of the kidneys and can result in pain in the abdomen, blood in the urine, nausea, vomiting, fever, or even renal failure.
What is the fifth case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii Quiz (Episode 23)?
The fifth case of the quiz in Dhadkan Zindagi Kii moves to episode 23. This case is of 30 year old with a rash on the face and back. There is also a history of fever and leukemia. The answer suddenly comes out as Sweet syndrome. It is very difficult to come up with a diagnosis so quickly.
Sweet Syndrome is a rare skin problem that results in skin rash in the form of tiny bumps that are big and also hurt when touched (tender). These skin problems can happen on the face, neck, and other parts of the body. Sweet syndrome is also called acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis.
What is the sixth case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii Quiz (Episode 23)?
The sixth and last case of the Dhadkan Zindagi Kii quiz is from episode 23. This is a case of a 40-year-old female with pain on the right side of the abdomen. The patient presents with pain on the left side of the abdomen. The pain seems close to the spleen. This could be a bleeding or an anastomotic leak. They check for a CT scan and it is not clear on the screen.
Either way, it seems like the patient will require an operation. There is a discussion that the patient will be treated with Bogota. The Bogota bag is a type of plastic bag that is used to close the abdomen when it cannot be closed. This is used when the abdominal pressure is more and is used as a temporary way to fix the abdomen.
Do this type of quiz happen in real life?
In my experience, I have not seen a quiz like this to identify a team leader either when I did MBBS or during my junior residency. However, if anyone is aware of something like this, do comment below.
