What is Brain Food?

Here is a drink you can easily make at home using natural ingredients in less than a minute. This drink improves your brain health, your memory, promotes antioxidant and is healthy. This is also vegetarian friendly. You can drink this every morning or anytime during the day and you will be full for many hours.

What are the Ingredients?

  • Six to eight medium sized strawberries
  • 10 almonds
  • 3 tablespoons of greek yogurt or curd
  • Half glass of water
  • 1 scoop of protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon of chia seeds
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Mix these ingredients in a blender and blend for 10 to 15 seconds. You can add more water as desired. If you blend for less time the almonds will stay crunchy and you can enjoy the crunch of it.

How does Strawberries improve brain health?

Strawberries have anthocyanin which gives its rich red color. This helps protect the brain cells from damaging and also increases communication between brain neurons. If you do not have strawberries, no worries. You can use bananas or any other fruit of your choice.

How does Almonds improve brain health?

Almonds has good amount of high quality fat and vitamin E both of which promote brain health and increases memory. Almond also increases intelligent quotient or IQ.

How is Yoghurt or curd important?

Yogurt is made of protein, calcium, vitamins and the healthy bacteria that the body needs.

I don’t like dairy. What do i do?

If you do not like yogurt or curd or have any intolerance you can use dairy alternatives like oat milk or almond milk or just use water.

How does water affect brain health?

75 percent of the brain is made of water. It is important to have good hydration as dehydration can affect the mood. Water is a natural brain health promoter.

How does protein improve brain communication?

Protein is the second largest matter in the brain after water. The brain cells talk to each other using amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. Protein rich food supports brain communication.

What protein should i use?

The options are: you can use whey protein, you can use peanut butter powder or any other protein of your choice. If you do not like protein powder that you buy from the store there are so many videos on social media describing how you can make protein powder at your own home.

What is chia seeds?

Chia seed is known as superfood. It has high amount of omega-3 fatty acids, which is an essential high quality good fat. Chia seed takes care of the brain by increasing communication between brain cells. If you cannot find chia seeds you can skip this. If you buy it, keep in the refrigerator so you can prolong the shelf life of it.

What are the benefits of Turmeric?

This contains a chemical called curcumin which increases memory. Turmeric is also known to decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Keep in mind not to use too much turmeric as this can alter the taste and can also cause gastric irritation.
